Why the gupdate /force /boot ?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have, in a remote office, a SBS 2003 server with 5 domain users. Recently one of the users noticed he can longer modify the remote access settings to his XP Pro PC. His domain user name is listed under the local PC's Administrator Group. He has been able to modify this settings in the past, but now gets a "The controls on this property page are disabled because you do not have sufficient privileges to access them" message.
Note: He occasionally "remotes" in to his individual machine, but when it is not to be done for a long period of time, he disables remote access.
1. Is the global group policy overriding the local admin privileges?
2. Why is it only happening to this particular domain user id?
3. If so, why now and not before, is there a latency to when the group policy is applied/enforced.

I assume group policy is preventing the user form accessing the required controls.
To check this, use GPMC on your server or on a workstation connected to your domain to get the policy results for this workstation and this specific user.

try gpupdate /force /boot
Also try creating another profile and making is local admin of the machine, does this resolve issue?
If so i'd be tempted to copy files over to a brand new profile.
