There are two sets of permissions for shares.  The Share permissions and the folder permissions.

If you only allow read permissions on the share, then they can only read the files.

If you allow Full Control on the share, then allow full control on the folder, they have full control.

If you allow Full Control on the share, then allow read only permissions on the folder, they only have read permissions on the files.

So - please check your share permissions and folder permissions and remember that to be effective, the users need Full Control on the share if they are to have any type of full control on the folder.

The share permissions and folder permissions are the same and still no go.  I am thinking it maybe something in a global setting for users.  At this point I will look more in the morning.

I just also realized I can not save to the folders either.

Check to see if the user(s) are members of a group that has deny permissions set as Deny takes precedence over allow.

by: mak3366Posted on 2009-11-03 at 08:48:37ID: 25730878

There are just some users with deny.  And I am not signed on as those users.  I am attaching the errors I am getting.  I can copy and paste into the folder.   I can create a new text doc but can not edit or save that doc to the folder.  I can not open any word, excel or access docs.  So it is only microsft office things I can not open.  I can open txt, adobe, rtf, but can not make changes and save them.  See attached for errors I am getting.

by: alanhardistyPosted on 2009-11-03 at 09:44:06ID: 25731475

Those errors are all permission problem errors.

If users are accessing shares via a Mapped drive then you need to review the permissions on the share, then on the folder to see if they have the required access.  It is clear that they don't have the correct permissions somewhere.
