Creating Mapped Drives and Shares in SBS 2011
Hello,
After a hiatus from IT, I have just got back in the game, and have run into a SBS 2011 install and cannot believe the idiocy of the new GPP system. Suffice it to say, I am completely flummoxed by the new supposedly wonderful GPP system for creating logon mappings to simple things like drives and printers. I have followed every link I can find and my experience is that the new GPP way of doing things is inconsistent, a pain to use and confusing at best. In a nut shell, it works like crap. Trying to go old school and SIMPLY write a script, attach it to a GPO for client logons, and be done with it doesn’t seem to work anymore. Like most Microsoft “improvements,” I find this new system to be slow, inconsistent and, in a word, ridiculous. Is there any way to bypass the “new” way, and go back to real GPO management? If not, how about a link that shows how to use this junk in the proper manner? Thanks!

How do you get to the Group Policy Management Editor in SBS 2011?
From the SBS Server > Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Group Policy Management
On SBS 2008 and SBS 2011, for auto drive mappings, would you edit the existing:
Group Policy Management > Forest: mydomain.local > Domains > mydomain.local >Group Policy Objects > Windows SBS Client Policy
or would you go to:
Group Policy Management > Forest: myFQDNdomain > Domains > my domain > MyBusiness > Users > SBSUsers and "Create a GPO in the domain, and Link it here..."
How do you know if you need to run client side extensions on XP boxes?
Where do you run gpupdate to put the changes in effect - on the server?
When should those mapped drives take effect on the workstations: next login?
