PPTP VPN disconnecting randomly

Hi all

I have a user who uses Windows XP SP3 at home, connecting to a SBS 2008 Std server using Routing and Remote Access.

This has been in place for the best part of a year now with no issues til recently.

No configuration changes have been applied, no firewall changes, etc. Nothing like that at all.

The user is able to connect and use the VPN for a random amount of time, then the VPN kicks him off. He is able to reconnect again.

The server event logs these:

EventID 20272
CoID={59B18A39-B98D-46B0-85AB-35DDCC9B2F5D}: The user DOMAIN\USER connected on port VPN2-126 on 06/09/2011 at 16:48 and disconnected on 06/09/2011 at 17:09. The user was active for 21 minutes 25 seconds. 22332 bytes were sent and 15282 bytes were received. The reason for disconnecting was administrative settings or explicit req.

EventID 20275
CoID={59B18A39-B98D-46B0-85AB-35DDCC9B2F5D}: The user with ip address 192.168.80.53 has disconnected

This is some-what common when using lower end routers. Some Linksys routers
have found a fix by changing the MTU to 1350. Is there a lower end router in
play?

Yes, the user has a ISP-issued router, but why would it start now after a year of working fine?

The router is ISP-issued and completely locked down, so I'll suggest the user buys his own one, that way I can set up a permenant IPSEC VPN link anyway.
