SBS2008 low disk space
Hi,
We have SBS2008, and it is always running out of space.
We thought it was sharepoint, but it appears to be something else.
How do we go about checking what is consuming the disk usage and prevent from consuming?
Cheers,
Goraek

Try WinDirStat:
http://windirstat.info/
This will allow you to see (graphically) what folders are using up what space, and you can drill down to the biggest ones to see more detail.

Most probably it is WSUS log filling your drive.
Check all logs locations on your server, and I am sure you will find a log of size 1-2 GB, which fills up your space every day.

C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W 3SVCxxxxxx x
Delete all files in there that are older than a couple of days.
You will find one in there that has Gigabytes of log files in it.
Also, if SEP is installed the SEM5.log tends to grow huge too.

Ill second BillBach on using WinDirStat, its free and opensource.
Don't guess where the space is going, run this tool and visually see where it is all going in a few minutes.
I would definitely do this before going and wiping logs, what happens if you end up needing those logs later for identifying a trend or something.

I have bloged about methods to locate and regain missing drive space on SBS 2008, it may be of some help to you:

Another thing to look for is to make sure that Exchange logs are getting truncated otherwise they will fill up fast. They should be being backed up and depending on your backup software if it's even decent at all it should truncate them.
Also, someone posted above about WSUS and that can be a huge disk filler.
I use something called: Tree Size
It's free (for awhile; you start with the free pro version and if you want to keep it you have to pay but you can always revert to the ad supported free version) and super easy to use. Get it here: http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

You might find your antivirus software is eating up diskspace. I use treesize and it is quick and easy to use.

Thanks for all your posts.
I have found that its the sharepoint database that keeps building up.
How do we fix this? Plus we don't use sharepoint.

Also, it appears that we are not able to see any hidden files - this is not showing in treesize too. Is there a way to see the hidden 'used up' space?

How do we know what has been downloaded to the server? And how much has it been downloaded?
