SBS 2003 Migration to SBS 2011

Hi

I am about to migrate to SBS 2011 from 2003 but have read in the instructions that the router address end in 1 or 254.

Can anybody advise if this is necessary or not?

Many Thanks

Great, that's what I was hoping and expecting to be the case.  Setting the router to a 192.168.x.1 or 254 seem a pain to be honest as I would have just changed it back afterwards.

Thanks for the link, I will proceed with the install and report back.

Cheers

Routers typically end in .1 or .254 in most networks, but it is by no means necessary.  The only requirement is you use one of the following subnets:
•10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
 •172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
 •192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

However if not using 192.168.x.x the wizard may not find the router and you have to manually enter, as it scans that subnet by default.

Thanks for the help.  I went ahead and it worked without an issue.
