I am trying to configure a sonicwall tz-180 to allow Micrsoft PPTP VPN passthrough. Looking for configuratoin advice for the SonicWall and the Microsoft SBS2003 server that is hosting the VPN.
There are two requirements (SBS site router): -you need to forward port TCP 723 from the router to the SBS -you need to enable PPTP VPN pass-through, to allow the GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) traffic The latter is done in many different ways on different routers, however as I recall on the Sonicwall rather than forwarding port 1723, use the built in service selection (step 5 in the link below) to choose PPTP and it will both forward 1723, and enable GRE. The following document is quite thorough but is for the TZ-150. Hopefully your unit will be similar http://www.no-ip.com/support/guides/routers/sonicwall.html
Where you are using SBS, you may also be interested in the following ports and services. port 21 - host an FTP server (not recommended on a Domain Controller -SBS) port 25 - incoming mail for Exchange port 80 - host a web site (not recommended on a Domain Controller -SBS) port 443 - OWA (Outlook Web Access) and RWW (Remote Web Workplace) port 444 - Sharepoint Intranet web site port 1723 - PPTP VPN port 4125 - RWW (also need 443 above)
