Question

sms cant connect to to desktop\Laptops

Out of about 3000 desktops/laptops, we cant connect to about 65 of them..
Mostly windows 2000 sp4 clients, and some laptops with xp sp2....sms 2004...

Can you suggest any basic troubleshooting that should be done first..?

On the site server, open up the ccm.log file in the logs folder. What are the error messages you are getting on this log?

What Do you mean  of connect to ? do you mean remote control ? or installing agent ?
What error that pops up to you  ?

Yes, what is the EXACT error message if any?

Is this an issue with remote control, or is the client not installing, is the client installed and not reporting data back to the MP?

If the clients have the client install do you see any errors in the client location logs? (root\windows\system32\ccm\logs\LocationServices.log)

Are these systems on the same or different subnets? Do you have site or roaming boundaries setup? Lots of things that can cause this issue, we just need you to be more specific if possible.
