Steps for deploying Windows XP using SCCM

Hi all,
which steps have to be taken in which order when i want to deploy windows xp?

SCCM is quiet huge and i'm loosing the overview a little bit!
If someone can describe the hole process in detail i will increase the points....but actually i'm just searching for a direction

also, I would recommend the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, d/l from here:

Then look in there for the SCCM setup guide...this will teach you a lot about deploying and capturing OS's along with Drivers and editing Task Sequences

It's a tricky old game bacause you can actually do most of what them show you in MDT alone and not have the SCCM integration. Personally I prefer to have an MDT build that I can quickly provision/test and deploy via WDS and MDT, without SCCM involvement. Then when I'm happy then import my deployment task sequence into SCCM and hey presto. I find it easier to understand the processes too, not to mention a damn sight easier to describe to customers.

Hi

these guides are great but i am trying to do the same thing and not really finding good information on actually creating the wim for windows XP

I want just a base image, that I can create from a VM that I can then deploy using PXE through SCCM, then have SCCM deploy drivers, and software to the image

does anyone know a good link or the steps required to do this

There is very little around that unfortunately. Maybe I'll make one when I get time, seems like an opportunity there.

Anyway if you follow the steps in the link at the bottom, but instead of Vista use XP. What you will have to do is to then configure your Sysprep and unattend text files to your liking. Don't just copy in your unattend tho, as you're likely to break the bits MDT needs.

Once you've got your captured wim then just use this in SCCM. In MDT you don't need to worry about any drivers other than those for NIC and Mass Storage that you need on your reference machine. These will be handled by SCCM. Use the link above for adding the sequences in and use the driver management link at the bottom for the control and management of drivers within SCCM.
