Question

Cannot process packages when source files are on network share.

I have reinstalled SMS/IIS/SQL from scratch. I am able to distribute packages that have a source direrectory location of "Local drive on site server", however, if I try to use "Network path (UNC name)", I get error messages for the "SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER" component: Message ID 2302:

SMS Distribution Manager failed to preocess package "Test Package" (pack....)

I viewed the distmgr.log file on the SMS server, and found the relevant lines (pasted into the code snipplet). It seems the Win32 Error 5 is an Access Denied error message. The "Administrator" account for the domain has full control for this file.

What about the share permissions?

Does the SMS Network Service account have permissions at the NTFS and Share level?

Sorry, I failed to mention that I am using advanced security. I think I may have found the solution.

Advanced security does not use network accounts, correct? It uses local system accounts. I gave permissions to the computer account of the SMS server to access the file, and it seems to work. Is this the correct way for advanced security?
