Question

System Center Configuration Manager - Device Not Found in database

Asked by: showstopper1970

Tyring to deploy image to laptop. Get the following error message in SCCM (4.00.6221.1000) when looking at the log file.

I have confirmed the MAC is correct. I have added and removed the machine. Last PXE advertisement was cleared (actually it did not show any pending PXE advertisements). stopped and restarted the WDS service.

Not an expert on SCCM, so I would like to know what I can try next? Thanks in advance

Have you done these steps

1. In the SCCM console, under Operating System Deployment, right click on Computer Association and select Import Computer Information.
2. Have you set the "network access account" ?

OK, in the SMSPXE log (SCCM Client log on the PXE server), look for the MAC address of the PC in question, (The MAC address FF:FF:FF etc you are seeing is just a PXE service test).  When you find the MAC address, you will see a lookup failure or success.  If you see a failure, the device hasn't been imported with the correct MAC address, if you see a success, but no assigned PXE advert, then it is likely that you have more than one record in ConfigMgr (or that the client is not in the right collection with a TS advertised that is available to PXE and Boot media).  A succesfull lookup will return a resource ID, in the 'All Systems' collection, add another column so that you can sort by Resource Id, and you can find the 'unsuccesful' client record.  When you find the record, you should be able to work out why it's not PXE booting.

The computername does not show up under All Systems collection. I added the machine as I usually do. Operating System Deployment > Computer Association > Import Computer Information.

Note: I am able to imagine about 95% of my machines. It just appears sometimes that a few refuse to imagine for whatever reason. Thanks in advance.

OK .. one of the following lines should contain the resource ID of the client record (Unfortunately I don't have access to a sample right now).  From memory the line is almost straight after the line you posted and the resource ID is the second number in a bracket (like -> ( 1, XXXX), where XXXX is the resource ID

In the all systems collection, use View->Add Remove Columns to add the Resource ID to the view.  Sort (or find) the resource ID, and you will have the client being returned.  It could be that  the record being returned  is obsolete, or not the record you expected.

Was all to sort in the All Systems collection and delete all obsolete records. It now works.
