Can server 2008 be used as a domain controller in a 2003 native mode active directory environment?

Currently we have a single 2003 domain in native mode.  I am planning on getting some training in powershell as well as 2008 server but my boss asked me if we can use server 2008 for future domain controllers while still running AD in 2003 native mode and I've not been able to fins the answer thus far.
