Since a Windows system install usually only takes 5-10 GB, why do I need such a big drive?
Will the installation fail on a 40 GB hard drive?
Will it help if I have my other drive (200 GB) installed and ready for storage requirements?
I have two other bigger drives that I want to use only for storage once the system is installed.

I wish I knew the reason why - I have installed WHS now on a 120 GB drive and it created two partitions automatically.
Sys: 20GB
Data: 98GB
So it appears the System doesn't NEED 70 GB, but it's reserving the rest for client backup tasks?
I'm mainly using it for a file server - not needing the backup yet . .
i've been doing a bit of reading and it seems the data partition is used as a landing zone when data is backed up and then moved from there to other drives as neccesary. I suppose the 80Gb limit is what a tech/programmer decided somewhere was reasonable as a minimum. Drives are so cheap now I wouldn't worry. :)

Home server uses alot of storage space for network files and document storage, and because you dont normally have a console into the server im not sure how much configuring you can do, so i woul dload the OS right on one of the bigger drives, but i dont think it would fail on a 40, just not sure what you will be abel to do afterword.
