if your using a 802.11n client and router your looking at 300-600Mbps . How much data approx do you have and how much does WHS Backup compress your data? But your bottle neck is surely your wireless Link.

Browse All TopicsHello,
First WHS backup for my Vista 64x Ultimate latop, connected wirelessly, has taken over 24 hours and it is still only at 55%.
I installed the software first on my wifes laptop (Ultimate 32) and that backup took about 5-7 hours, although we have about the same amount of data on our HDD's.
The server is connected via ethernet to our Liknsys WRT54G, and both laptops are connected to the router wirelessly.
I did a few searches, but found nothing helpful, or things I didn't understand.
Any help?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Krisdeep.
So I have to do wired backups for this to work well, let alone automatically?
Are you positive its not something else, like perhaps port forwarding or network settings etc?
This seems to be way slower than 54Mbps, as my entire data is 120gb. Is it backing up everything including system data? 28 hours seems a little excessive!
thanks again.
On an internal Home network it has nothing to do with port forwarding. 120 GB thats about 5 hours to transfer and thats at full speed. You will be look at really 40 and below. You also got to take interference and especially if your using the wireless network urself. Are you doing two backups at the same time?, And is there any other activity on the WHS at the same time?
When i said 40 and below im referring to the speed of the wirelss. Also you have to take note of interference and traffic. Its not always at full 54Mbps. To troubleshoot the problem further disable the wireless and plug in an ethernet and perform a backup. Im 100% sure it wont take you more then 2-3Hours.
I am using the network for web browsing only, nothing else is using it. And I'm only doing 1 backup, my wifes pc was backed-up successfully 2 days ago. I'm actually typing now on the same laptop thats being backed up. (62% so far, yay! not).
I really only want to back up photos, media, documents, and saved program info, not the entire system, but i guess i can configure all this after this first backup.
