Using Windows 2008 DFS replication to synchronize files between two servers and a laptop.

Hi,

We would like to use DFS Replication in Windows 2008 Server Standard to replicate a user directory between two servers. We would also like that direcotry to synchronize with a Windows XP machine (laptop) via VPN and over the internet. Is this at all possible, and is there a guide on how to do this?

Create a replication job between the two servers using DFS. You can then add the shares on the two servers into a domain-published DFS namespace, and then always access the user's folder using \\domain\namespace.

For the laptop, you can then browse to the user's folder in \\domain and use Offline Files to synchronize with the servers. The laptop will sync to one of the two servers, and DFS will then replicate the data between servers.

Thank you for the help, I have DFS running and replicating between the two servers now. I've heard something about a DFS client for Windows XP that will allow replication to the laptop itself. Is there a way to keep the laptop synchronized even while it is not connected to the local network at one of the two sites? (Synchronizing over the internet?)
