Question

I receive a Error: 0xC004C008 when attempting to activate.

I have a new installation of Windows Server 2008 and when I attempt to activate the server I receive this error ( Error: 0x2a 0xC004C008 ). When look this error up if only refers to Windows Vista and not Server 2008. Has anyone run into this and what would be a course of action to get this server activated?

The License Key you are using is the wrong one for the Version of Windows 2008 you installed.  Please check you key again.  Are you using a MAK key or KMS key?

I used the one assigned to my companies Volume License Agreement. I verified that it was set by running this script "cscript slmgr.vbs -ipk KEY" restarting the server then running the script "cscript slmgr.vbs -ato" and it would always fail with the error I submitted.

 My key is a KMS.

 I was finally able to get it activated though, I tried using the phone activation and it failed as well. I had to call Microsoft and rep gave me a activation id to enter and this did the trick.

If it is a KMS key, do you have a KMS Server on your network?  The KMS key will not work successfully unitl you have 25 Vista/Windows 2008 clients activated by the server.

I do not have a KMS server on my subnet, but I know there is one on my corporate domain's network which I pass through to get to the internet as well as all AD connectivity. My Vista clients do not have any issues activating, and one of my other 2008 Servers activated OK on my other locations subnet. This seemed odd to me when this failed for the other location passes through me to get to my corporates services.
 I will accept your solution fo r it seems plausable and I am in fact activated now.
