Browse All TopicsHello,
I just finished replacing our old Domain Controllers with new Hardware and Windows Server 2008, and I need help with the time synchronization.
Here is my current network:
4 Domain Controllers with Windows Server 2008
4 Separate Subnets (1 Domain controller at each one)
Client computers run Windows XP SP2
My question is, how would I set up the time synchronization? Would I have the domain controller with all of the FSMO go an get its time outside of our network? If so, how do I do this. After that, would I have the remaining domain controllers point to the domain controller with FSMO roles for time? And lastly, how would I have the client computers sync with all of the domain controllers?
Also, how can I check to see where each client or domain controller is syncing its time from?
Please help...thank you!
Randy

Does this Servers exist in the same TIME ZONE? if yes, make one DC as the PDC Emulator and point it to an external time server. Then make other DCs to point to Interal timer Server (PDC emulator) so as the workstations. .......... ....

net time is a deprecated method in 2K3 and XP.
Assuming that this is a single-domain environment:
[1] Configure your PDC Emulator to point to an external time source, as described here: http://support.microsoft.c
For all other DCs, member servers and workstations, configure the W32Time service to use its default settings as follows:
[1] Stop the w32time service
[2] Run w32tm /unregister && w32tm /register at the command prompt
[3] Start the w32time service
Your 2nd DC will receive its time from your PDC Emulator. Your member servers and workstations will receive their time from the DC that authenticated them, which may or may not be the PDCe. Look for successful entries in the System Log of all machines involved from the w32time service, indicating which server each machine is obtaining its time from.
Configuring the Windows Time service to use an internal hardware clock
