The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. How to Access Shared folder of the domain file server from a workgroup computer?

Hello,

We had workgroup environment and we want to go to Domain, we made a new Domain Controller and joined our new fill server to the domain, so our new file server is a member of the domain controller.

Most of our users are still In workgroup that are not joined to Domain yet, we want the work group users to be able to connect to our new File server that is a member of the DC now. For this purpose we created user accounts for our workgroup users in DC and went to the new File server and applied the access permission policy on our shared drive.

Now the problem is that the workgroup users can map the new file server shared drive, they can list the folders inside but can not read/write or do anything else, although on the security tab of the root folder we have assigned the user read/write and in some of the subfolders we have given them full access. But the workgroup users can only list the new file server but cant read it at all.

Can someone please let us know if: 1. is it possible to get to the file server that is in domain from a workgroup computer that is not joined to the domain? 2. If yes, then why the workgroup user is only able to list the shared folder, why cant he read/ modify?
