Yes. I ran in the following order:
adprep /forestprep
Raised Domain and Forest functional level to Windows 2003
adprep /domainprep
adprep /domainprep /gpprep
adprep /rodcprep
All ran fine without errors.

Browse All TopicsI'm running dcpromo on a Windows Server 2008 so it will become our 2nd DC on a Windows 2003 domain, and then the wizard then comes up with this error/warning:
A delegation for this DNS server cannot be created because the authoritative parent server zone cannot be found or it does not run Windows DNS server. To enable reliable DNS name resolution from outside the domain xxxxxx.local, you should create a delegation to this DNS server manually in the parent zone.
Do you want to continue ?
Some documents I found say to ignore this message, that it is benign. Or suggest to dcpromo without DNS, and then install DNS and GC after the dcpromo. ???? Or should I do something about the delegation ?
The W2K8 server is a member of the domain, it's DNS ip points to the main DNS server.
Thanks for your help

That error is benign. Ignore it. You're seeing this because it points to itself when you choose to install DNS and it's not yet there. Personally, if you have DNS on the LAN then don't install DNS on the new server just yet. Make it a DC while pointing it to your other DNS server. Once it's a full DC, then add the DNS role and it will pull the other DNS content into it as long as the zones on the 2003 server are AD Integrated.

Did you run domainprep and forestprep? That is required before the first 2008 DC is added, or will prepare the schema for 2008
