The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Issue with WT32 on Windows Server 2008 not syncing or keeping time properly

Hey guys,

I am having an issue on my fileserver running Server 2008.  The timeclock isn't keeping accurate time.  This varies, but 1 second on the  file server takes about 10-12 seconds to actually click to the next second.  This is a major problem because after 5-10 minutes Kerberos security policies from the DC won't authenticate with the fileserver, kicking it off the network.  Once this happens, all the Data (databases, archive psts, etc) becomes unavailable.

I've restarted the WT32 service, checked the BIOS time (which is correct and current), run Dell's diags with no errors, reset the time to sync with the DC...Nothing has worked.

Currently I have a script running in task scheduler to sync with the server, and have it scheduled to run three different times to be sure it runs.  I did this because the lowest setting is every 1 minutes in task scheduler, and 1 minute on this machine takes a lot longer then an actual minute.

I've also changed the default Kerberos time-limit to 120 minutes, from the default 5.  This is for short-term so that the users can continue to work while I troubleshoot.

Any thoughts?  One option is to change the file server settings to update to the hardware time clock as opposed to the DC, but that involves registry changes and it isn't really a fix, but a workaround.

Also, both servers are PowerEdge 2900's.

Thanks
Tim
