The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Mapped drive can't be changed; keeps returning to old folder

Asked by ni68ana in Windows Server 2008, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista

I am in the middle of a transition from windows server 2003 to 2008, and am trying to redirect users' network drives from the old 2003 server to the 2008. Users have a U: drive which points to their personal folder on the server. I have made the change redirecting to the folder on the new server in the logon script, and applied it thru group policy.
All users are running vista SP1.
For some users this has worked OK, and their U: drive now points to the new server, but for a particular user the drive insists on pointing to the folder on the old server. I have run gpupdate /force on the workstation, no luck, also tried manually deleting the old mapping and creating a new one to the new folder. I've also enabled more aggressive processing in the site GPO by enabling computer configuration | admin templates | system | group policy | folder redirection / network shares policy processing | process even if no changes were made. Still maps to folder on the old server. Also if I set a local policy on her machine redirecting to the new folder, still no go.
By the way, folder redirection works for this user. Her desktop and documents open from the folder on the new server. Just that her U: drive keeps mapping to the old location.
Any suggestions much appreciated... thanks.
