Thanks for the response. I suppose that will work, but I'm hoping to find a more integrated solution than that. Anyone else have any ideas?

Browse All TopicsIs there a way to change the default security groups that all new users are added to? Right now when I create a new user in Active Directory 2008, that new user is only added to the "Domain Users" security group. I want to make it so all future users that are added are added to another group in addition to "Domain Users". We'll call it "GroupA". So how do I make it so all future users added are added as members of "Domain Users" and "GroupA"?
Thanks for the help!

I agree with what has been said, this is the only way to deal with this task.....Use templates, its what MS teach from the word go in AD administration, if you want to hit local groups, then you can use a restricted group membership policy, but for AD based membership, do it with templates, or use a tool such as CSVDE or similar to import your uses into AD with predetermined values

I don't know of any way to change the default group membership setting. However, the way I have always worked around this is to create a template user with the settings (including group membership and other settings) that I want to use for new users. Then when I need to create a new user account, I simply copy the template and give it the new user name and password, etc.
