Question

How to prevent users from running .exe files from a USB drive?

Hello,
We are trying to come up with a way of stopping users from running any kind of .exe file from their removable drives. We are using server 2008 and the OS on the user machines is XP. The 2008 group policy doesn't seem to have any option to support this problem for removable drives.

Has anybody found a solution to a similar problem?

There are many commercial solutions to this problem.  You could take a look at Checkpoint Endpoint Security (https://www.checkpoint.com/) which is the new solution on the market combining the expertise of a couple of companies including Reflex Magnetics which owned Disknet.  Disknet does exactly what you want and is an excellent system used by the Government and Defence industries.
