What does it mean when software on MSDN says “Debug/Checked Build”?

I’m looking to download Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003, and Server 2008 from MSDN.

Some of the software titles include the “Debug/Checked Build” in the software title description.

What exactly does this mean?

For example, I see one that says “Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 Debug/Checked Build (x86) - DVD (English)”

I simply need to load this software on some of my computers for testing to see if they work properly with software that we are developing.
However, I want to load the actual true versions of the Windows operating systems that the end user consumers will be using when they purchase our software.
Is it safe for me to download and test our software on the “Debug/Checked Build” software? Or should I avoid these types of MSDN operating systems altogether and download just the regular operating systems?

What are the differences?
