Window 2008 print Spooler service keeps freezing

Hi

We have windows 2008 Print servers In the last  3 months we had 10 occassions  where users reporting that they cant print. I noticed that the spooler service on the  print server had stopped . On all occassions  i went to the following directory and  manually deleted the print jobs and restatred the spooler service and the users were able to send the print  without any problems. I also checked the size of the spooler files that were waiting and they were 7mb.

 %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS

I checked the eventviewer and i had the following logs.Any idea as why the spooler size keeps freezing.

The program svchost.exe, with the assigned process ID 1748, could not authenticate locally by using the target name HOST/.. The target name used is not valid. A target name should refer to one of the local computer names, for example, the DNS host name.
 Try a different target name.

ASKER

I had a recent event where the spooler service stopped  and during this time i went to the task manager and under the performance i noticed CPU usage was 100% and physical memory was 76%. Does this happen due to poorly written drivers.

Hi Chlebi

This event is occuring very frequently now,  than before. Is there way to find out the driver which is experiencing this memory leake.

Thanks

We have around 80 printers which includes MFPs. Do  i need to download each printer driver from the vendor website and update then individually.

If so do i need to go to the each printer  on the printserver
-Right click
     -properties
          -Advanced
              - New driver
                    - Havedisk and browse to the newly downloaded driver and say ok.

Thanks
