Please wait for the user profile service... hangs
Hi,
I have a Dell PowerVault NX3100 running Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 (NAS) and every now and again (days) it hangs when trying to login and stays at "Please wait for the user profile service.." There are shared folders on the server which are accessible and work fine, the only issue is that the backup software cannot connect to the server, remote desktopn does NOT work, and also when you try to login physically on the server, you enter your login credentials and it hangs right at the "Please wait for the user profile service...." The only way to login to the server is to manually hold the power button and reboot and it works fine for a couple days and then the same issue/problems.

Hanging on the "user profile service" is often related to not being able to find shared resources such as mapped drives/folders and printers specified in GPO policy
Might be worth checking there are no legacy or conflicting entries

How do you check for legacy or conflicting entries cpmcomputers???
You can check under Group Policy for your domain
User Configuration/ preferences/windows settings/drive maps
User Configuration/ preferences/control panel settings/printers (if any)
Also check that once you are logged in that any shares/mappings are valid
and not pointing to folders/resources that are no longer on the network.
Better to see if you have winlogon errors recorded in your event viewer at the time the problem occurs? that would be a better starting point ?

There are no resources under the GPOs you mentioned. As it relates to shares/mappings are all valid. I guess my last option would be to look at the event viewer.
The GPO was a quick fix possibility - have fallen across it before.
Yes, I would look to the event viewer but the link to the question above might prove a useful read ( if a bit long winded)

Hi Confortjeanius I will try the adapters and bindings, but I need to reboot the server which I cannot at the moment since its a production server. The thing is the issue usually takes a couple days to happen.

Only solution that worked.
Make sure your "production" card is on top in the network connections -> advanced settings -> adapters and bindings.
You could also enable user env logging
