New User Not Getting Redirected Folder

Hello Experts!

Server - 2008 Standard
Workstation - Vista Business

Previous user on this workstation had My Docs, etc. redirecting fine.
Above user left company. When I add a new user, the new user is not getting a redirected folder for My Docs. When I borwse to \\server\Folder Redirection I get an access denied error.

Cant figure out why new user's redirected folder is not setting up.

Note: If I log in as the old user, (who's redirection has always worked), I don't get the error and can access his redirected folders. Issue seems to be when I add a new user and login to this workstation..

Mick, check this hotfix, i think it refers to your problem. But its only available to windows 7, not sure for Vista.

You could try login in with the old user and check in Windows explorer the status of the work online / offline button is set to Work online, then log in with the new user and verify the same, to unlock the offline cache

Again, thanks Ruben. I was already "on the trail" with the Client Side Caching (CSC) you mentioned above in your link.

I logged in as a domain admin and disabled offline files.
Logged on as the new user who was not getting redirected. Verified that that the users My Docs were getting redirected...and they were!! User directory was successfully created on the server's redirected folders share!!! Logged off.
Logged in as domain admin again and enabled offline files. Logged out.
Logged back in as the user again and....BOOM...here we go again...access to redirected folders getting denied again!

It seems like redirection only works when offline files is disabled...

Yes, that seems to be the problem. If only one user logs in the computer and he enables to work offline there should be no problem, maybe disable offline files as admin and try to enable with the new user

Good suggestion. Logged on as domain admin and disabled offline files. Logged in as new user, files redirecting fine. Re-enabled offline files while logged on as this new user and logged out. Yup...you guessed it...access denied again.

It appears that, (as far as I can tell), redirection ONLY works, at least on this Vista Business workstation, if Offline Files is disabled.

Yep, that seems to be the problem, I guess you need offline file in the machine

I found this other article refering to the GPO and an option with compatibility with older OS:

The subject workstation is a desktop so I give up. The only way I can make redirection work, (at lease with this workstation), is to...again, disable folder redirection from the workstation.

The "why" of this issue really, really, bugs me. I have spent at least 8 hours trying to fix, and I need to cut my losses and move on! I always have a hard time backing away from issues like this that I find a work around for...but really don't FIX.

I suspect most of my problem is virus disguised as an OS: VISTA!!!!! :-)

Anyway, I REALLY appreciate your help and suggestions. I'm going to leave the thread open until tonight to see if anyone else has an idea. If not, the points will be yours.
