The power does not go off. Why? Before I installed Win2000 everything was workig fine in Win98. When I shut down Win98, the power would go off automatically.

I will try all these suggestions.
I only tried Portang's suggestion. It did not work. In fact, in the BIOS the power button option has two choices: Instant Off and Wait 4 Seconds. I chose Instant Off. Also APM is enabled.
I remember in Win98, I used the Setup /j Option when installing Windows 98 on my computer to enable ACPI support. In Win2000 I could not find anywhere where I can enable ACPI support. Any ideas?
After installation, you can check if you have acpi support by right-clicking the hal.dll file in c:\winnt\system32
Go in the version tab and look at the internal name of the dll.
If it's halacpi.dll, you have acpi support. If not, it will be just hal.dll.
You can force (at your own risk !) a specific HAL by adding a /HAL=MYHAL.DLL in the boot.ini
have fun...
