Question

Media Player 7

Asked by: dpeng

I have installed MS Media Player 7 on Windows 2000.  It seems to crash my system everytime I play a video either over the network or via CDROM.

I ran "dxdiag" and things seem to turn out fine.  Here's a dump of system information.

Yes, it sucks a lot.  I find MP7 quite non-Microsoftish, and I certainly am disappointed with it.  It's ugly as hell for one thing.  Since when does Microsoft make fashionable interfaces?  We won't discuss MSN Explorer...

Fortunately, when you install MP7, MP6.4 stays intact and can still be used.  You can find that:

"D:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe"

or your equivalent directory.

So, this is yet another example of MS releasing crap?

Hey, for the most part, Microsoft makes the best software available, regardless of how you may feel about them as a company.  Generally speaking, when you use a Microsoft product, you can be pretty certain that everything will work as intended and it will be extremely well thought out.

Are you running as administrator. I was getting the same problem in User mode but, administrator would work. The way that I fixed it was to give the Users modify rights to the All users directory under profiles.

Nah, I opted to rip out W2K and install 98.  Seems like MS still needs to iron out a few things as far as multimedia in W2K.  But, all in all, that would have probabaly resolved similar issues.  MS answer to lots of things is to uninstall/install newer version!!
