The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Up to yesterday, I had a IBM P70 monitor connected to my computer using the 3DFX Voodoo 3 3500TV card.  All resolutions worked fine and the TV feature worked as well.  I was using the Voodoo Beta5 drivers (since they dont have final release drivers for W2K yet).
Yesterday, I removed my IBM monitor & installed a Viewsonic ViewPanel VG175.  After physically connecting it, I installed the drivers provided with the monitor.  Now, I have 2 problems.

1) The Voodoo TV doesn't work.  Talking to tech support, they told me that the voodoo doesn't support flat screens and that all flat screens dont support video overlay, a required feature for the TV program to work.  Is this correct?

2) I can't specify my monitor model type anywhere in windows!  It is currently using "default monitor" but still seems to be working since I can change resolution w/o problems.  Under device mgr, I have no category for 'Monitor' which I think should be there.  How can I fix that?  The only place I can currently check my monitor type is under Ctrl Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced.  There is a 'monitor' tab but it just says my monitor is 'default monitor' and the 'properties' button is greyed out so I can not change it.  The only thing I can change is the refresh frequency (currently set at 60 Hz, which matches the flat screen manual's specs).

I then went to 3dfx's web site and noticed new versions of the beta drivers (RC1) and Visual Reality (TV software).  After installing the new versions of both, nothing has changed.

Any ideas?  Tech support is giving me limited answers since drivers are beta and unsupported by them or Microsoft.

Thanks!
