The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Win2k Pro lockups??

Asked by thelung187 in Windows 2000 Operating System

Ok, ever since I put my new system together, it's been freezing up on me every so often, and is truly starting to grate on my nerves.  The setup goes as follows:

Asus A7V Motherboard
Thunderbird 1.1Ghz w/Silver Orb cooling fan
Hercules GeForce2 GTS Pro 64mb
Soundblaster Live! Value
2- 256mb Micron PC133 RAM
Logitech Optical USB Mouseman w/PS2 adapter
Sony CRX145W 10x4x32x cdrw

Now, I've tried so many things trying to troubleshoot this it hurts.

a.  Installed both the Hercules drivers, then the NVIDIA Detonator 3 drivers.
b.  Tried the mouse both with and without USB connection (via PS/2 adapter).
c.  Tried changing latency and such with memory, setting it in BIOS at both 100 and 133.
d.  Reinstalled Windows 2000.
e.  Installed drivers for Soundblaster.

Only other thing I can think of is that DirectX is giving me problems, being that it's architecture was basically a "square peg in a round hole" type deal with Windows 2000, in that it was pretty much forced into the OS rather than reworked (MS for ya).  If anyone has ANY possible ideas/suggestions, I would most definitely appreciate any/all feedback.  Thanks!
