W2K not recognising LS120 correctly

Asked by PhilatHome in Windows 2000 Operating System

I have recently changed my OS from W98 to W2K Pro. I installed W2K as a new install, complete with FDISK.

My Bios sees LS120 as a slave disk drive on the IDE which is correct. When I boot up in DOS I can read/write 120M floppy disks in drive OK.
When I boot up in W2k the OS sees the LS120 as a "High Capacity Floppy Disk Drive" and it appears in device manager under Floppy disc drives. (Under W98 the OS saw the LS120 as a disk drive under "Disk Drives" in device manager.)

In W2K, I have uninstalled the device, and searched for new hardware with the following result :-
As the OS searches, the Device Manager screen updates, and the device appears under "Disk Drives" correctly identified as a Matshita LS120 drive. Then The screen updates again and the device type changes to a "High Capacity Disk Drive", and the location of the device moves from "Disc Drives" to "Floppy Disc Drives". The search then finishes, and the Find New Hardware wizard ends. The OS will not read/write or format 120M disks.

My drive setup is as follows :-
IDE-0 Master = Hard Disk, Slave = LS120
IDE-1 Master = CDRW, Slave = CDRW
Floppy Disk Port = 1.44 FDD
