Hi all,
I used to have a print driver (is that what it's called. When I print from any application, one can pick from a list of "printers" available), called something like "pdf writer". I don't know how I got it... probably from one of the applications that I installed.
In any case, when I uninstalled Acrobat 4.0, it disappeared. It was a really useful driver. I installed Acrobat 5.0 and 6.0 but never got that driver back. I went to the Adobe site and couldn't find it. Maybe I just don't know what it's called because I couldn't even find it for purchase.
I had deleted 4.0 installation a while back so I don't have it to test whether it installed it or not. In any case, if I uninstall 4.0, it'll be gone again.
How can I get it again? for free like I had before?

p.s. I don't want to print to a postscript file and then convert it. I liked it simple and would like to return to that state.

Are you installing adobe acrobat reader or writer? If it is reader then maybe you had acrobat 4 writer and you are installing acrobat 5 or 6 reader. Does this help? They are different programs, reader is free and writer cost a couple hundred dollares. The print driver automatically installs so i am assuming that maybe you are confused about how the program works and the differences between the free version that only allows youto view pdf files and the pay version that allows you to create them.
Sorry for the confusion. I am talking about the reader. I've never bought the writer (or Distiller). But somehow I had it (pdf print driver) and now it's gone :(
I'll wait a few more days to see if anyone else knows why I may have had the print driver without paying for the pdf writer. Perhaps someone would know the application that it came with. Then I'll close this question. Thanks.

You must specify during Adobe Acrobat 4 Installation that you want Adobe writer installed.
That means you must choose "Custom" setup option during installation.
There you will see acrobat writer and other stuff...Check it and there you go...
