very strange....I'd say copy her user account, delete the old account, and then rename the new one....copying the account should place the new user account in the same user groups, so NTFS security won't be messed up too bad...you will need to grant her access to things the user was granted direct access too
you could also try service packs....maybe that was one of the thousands of fixes that they perform

Does she login to a domain or workgroup?
You could check the password policy for that computer, it could be set to 1 day, by defaut this is set to 42 days (I think) and so you are asked to change it every 42 days.
If your on a domain, the the domain policy for the password policy shuold be in effect and should be the same for all users.
If its a workgroup then you will have to set this for each computer locally
To change the password policy, login into her computer
Start -> Settings>Control Panel->Administrativ Tools->Local Security Policy->In the left panel Expand 'Account Policies' and then click on 'Password Policy'->Right click on 'Maximum password age' and select 'security'->In the 'Password expires in' change it to the number you want.
If this is set to 1, then she will have to change it everyday, if you change it to 0, then it will never expire.
