Hi

When i started my pc todays back , it is giving me IE related error message when i started IE 6.0 and some explorer related error when i opened any window. If i clicked ok on IE related error message it getting closed and another new IE is opening and same error dialog coming up. If clicked on Explorer related error message , it just killing all my processes and desktop getting refreshed and starting my some processes.  So, i think to repair my win 2k pro , i just restarted my pc in DOS mode , i have started setup program(e:\newfolder1\i386>winnt ) . Then i have selected "R" option to repair.
after copying of files has successfully completed , it restarts on its own, Thus the begining of my problem, from that time it is continuously restarting on its own,

when ever it restarts the system , it is coming up to scaning disk c and it prompting the message restarting the setup ............... and in next flash some messaged coming & getting restarting again. (Here iam not able to  read that message it displaying just before restart)

if u need any more information mail me back

Boot into recovery console and look at the newest file you can find here:
%SystemRoot%\Minidump

See if you can find some error code.

how can i boot into recovery console

Description of the Windows 2000 Recovery Console
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;229716

Start your computer with the Windows Setup floppy disks, or with the Windows CD-ROM. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10, or press R to repair, and then press C (Windows 2000 only) to start the Windows Recovery Console. Select the appropriate number for the Windows installation that you want to repair, and then type the administrator password. If the administrator password does not exist, just press ENTER.

I suggest you to use the win2k bootdisks (http://www.bootdisk.com) to boot into recovery console, so you can browse the C: drive for this dumpfile.

You're right, he also posted it as an "Administrative Comment" so it couldn't be accepted as an answer like yours.

I would like to thank you both for stepping in.

gemarti,
fyi, your solution will work in win2k. Thanx.

I installed a faulty PCI card in my machine...  After driver installation, the machine would reboot as soon as the driver for the card activated the card.  So if you updated your OS then drivers were probably updated too...  Hardware/new driver problem?

I'm running into a similar reboot problem after attempting an install of a MS Hotfix that kept reappearing despite multiple installs.  I tried to uninstall the hotfix.  When it rebooted as part of the uninstall process it started its endless loop of reboots.  I should add that I am also running Win2000.

I can get into console mode, but REG does not appear to be a valid command from Win2000.  Am I doing something wrong?  Please help... my next best choice is a reinstall.

Hi. Sorry this link should be edited. Here is a "REVISED" solution to the one I posted above. Specifically I should not have suggested using the Recovery Console. It should be the Safe Mode Command Prompt:

It sounds like your system may be autorestarting after a Blue Sceen of Death (BSOD) Stop Error Message. If you are able to get into the safe mode command prompt you can do this to remove the auto restart attribute from the OS. This will allow you to view the BSOD error message:

Boot your PC to the safe mode command prompt. You can do this by selecting it from the F8 menu on booting your machine.

At the Safe Mode Command Prompt log on as administrator. Type the following at the command prompt:
REG /QUERY HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Crashcontrol /v Autoreboot

You should get a value of either 1 or 0. 1=true; 0=false, therefore if it is 1 then do the following:
REG /DELETE HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Crashcontrol /v AutoReboot
REG /ADD HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashContron /v AutoReboot /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Now when you reboot your PC the "BlueScreen" will freeze on the screen.
Copy down exactly what the BSOD ("BlueScreen of Death") says and then post that information.

++++++++++++++++BOOT TO SAFE MODE COMMAND PROMPT+++++++++++++++++++

Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
When you see the message Please select the operating system to start, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and then press ENTER.
