The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can't find strings within text files with "Search for Files & Folders" when the strings actually are there

Asked by RomeoVF in Windows 2000 Operating System

Hi,

Everyday I have to copy a folder from a network drive to my hard drive. Sometimes it is the folder itself, and sometimes the folder is zipped.

In that floder there are about 200+ text files which have a string I want to change for another. I have a "search and replace" app for that purpose, but suddenly it stopped working (no error messages, no warnings, just stopped working).

I opened a few of the files manually and the string was there, so I wento to "Search for Files & Folders" of W2K in order to search for the files that have the string. But there are no results, even when I can see the string inside the files.

This riddled me, so inside the folder I created a text file and inside it put the string to search for. This time, "Search for Files & Folders" gives me only this new file at the results and doesn't list the ones that came in the folder.

If I copy the folder from the network drive to another computer and try the "Search for Files & Folders" looking for the string, the results are normal, and also the "search and replace" app workd fine there, so the problem is in my pc. Please help me. Thanks for your attention.
