SUMMARY
It is possible to prevent the Clipboard toolbar from automatically appearing when you use multiple Copy commands in any Microsoft Office program. This article explains how to do this by modifying the Windows Registry.

NOTE: You cannot disable (or enable) the Office Clipboard for only a single Office program by modifying the registry.

About the Office Clipboard
When you copy multiple items in any of the Microsoft Office programs, the Office Clipboard appears, allowing you to collect and paste multiple items stored in the toolbar. For example, you can copy a chart in Microsoft Excel, switch to Microsoft Word, copy text, and then switch to Microsoft PowerPoint and paste all of the collected (cut or copied) items from the Office Clipboard.

You can manually show the Clipboard toolbar by pointing to Toolbars on the View menu and clicking Clipboard.

The Office Clipboard automatically appears and collects items when you do any of the following:


You cut or copy two different items consecutively in the same Office program.

-or-
You copy one item, paste the item, and then copy another item in the same Office program.

-or-
You copy the same item twice in succession.
Disabling the Office Clipboard
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


When you add the following registry entry, it prevents the Office Clipboard from automatically appearing when you perform multiple Copy commands in any of the Office programs. To add the AcbControl registry entry, follow these steps:


Quit any programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run. Type regedit and click OK.
In the Registry Editor, click to select the following subkey (folder):
HKey_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\General

On the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value. With New Value #1 selected, type AcbControl, and then press ENTER.
On the Edit menu, click Modify. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, click Decimal under Base. Type 1 in the Value data box. Click OK and quit the Registry Editor.

NOTE: To turn on the Office Clipboard, repeat step 5 above, changing the value from 1 to 0.
