Rhandels, I dont see where to create the mailbox?
Is it in dsadd?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI've been able to create a user account from the windows command line using DSADD.
dsadd user CN=joe,CN=Users,DC=server,
But The account thats created does not have the "ms exchange" capabilities.
Im running windows 2003, exchange, active directory.
Accounts created from the "active directory users and comptuers" have extra tabs for exchange.
What do I have to add to my dsadd command to get exchange capaiblities.
If there is another command line tool for this purpose please suggest it.
Thanks

Hi mbalsam,
If you right click on a user in the Active Directory users and Computers, you will see the "Exchange tasks" option. Click this and you will receive some sort of wizard where you can create a mailbox for the user.
Also, according to Microsoft it should be working. Unfortenately, i'm not in the position to test it. But i would go for the above workaround..
If you don't see the Exchnage tasks tab, i would recommend a reïnstall of Exchange server.. Do you see something strange in the event viewer about Exchange???
I have yet to test this, but it would seem logical that mbalsam is running dsadd from a machine that does not have Exchange installed on it, such as a domain controller. This will add the account to AD, but it is my understanding that only Exchange mailboxes can be added from a server that has Exchange installed on it. This is why ADUC is different on an server with Exchange installed on it, than a server that is only a DC. Any machine with the ESM installed on it should be able to add Exchange mailboxes, such as an Exchange front-end server. Of course, you would need to be logged in as the Exchange Admin or supply those credentials in the dsadd arguments.

Hi,
indowsxp/h ome/using/ productdoc /en/ defaul t.asp?url= /windowsxp /home/usin g/productd oc/en/ dsad d_user.asp
You can try and have a look at the link below. This actually should be working. The only thing that pops into my mind when seeing this is that after you create a user using the AD Users and Computers, you get the Exchange task screen asking you to create a mailbox. In the command line, you creata an e-mail address for the user, but don't create the mailbox for him... I think that that's your problem...
