My system is dragging. I have done a lot of reading and then jumped into My Computer and found stuff that isn't too good. ;) Trying to decide if I should just format and reinstall or not. Things are going just a bit faster after a clean reinstall (just hit the WNNT system area meaning I've had to reinstall my programs, but I thought it might be worth it). I uninstalled Symantec/Norton as I now run Zone Alarm (complete program). I worked on computer to rid traces of Symantec. Got most, but that created errors. I have saved each section to text or event to my files in case I need them. I did save most everything I needed to disk (have a few more photos and files to go if I do format).
Is it worth chasing ALL those errors. I've logged a week plus now and am tired (have physical problems going on from surg). I'd rather spend time with a CLEAN system and reinstall the whole works leaving out stuff I just don't want on here anymore rather than get my hands all dirty only to decide I still want to reinstall CLEAN with formatting.
I have 256 MB of RAM on a Dell Dimension 20 GB harddrive running Win2000. I know just enough to be "dangerous." I was using Win98 when a consultant (I do NOT like the way I was treated or my computer either and paid a small fortune only to have more difficulties now less than a year later). I felt "forced" to have them install Win2000 which I could have easily done and saved about $200 as I still had a week or two or work to do after they finished.
I have "other devices" with "?" beside it. Computer needs it, but I can't figure out exactly what it's running as it says VID....... but the drivers for my video are installed elsewhere. ???? That's another question perhaps best left alone.
I can only afford this one month (for now) so I need to get cracking on this now. What is your gut feeling on format vs. chasing demons another week or two or three only to have to format? AND if I format is it just like Win98 et al. wherein I format and boot up to the CD and install from there?
Thanks.
