The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

too many crashes!

Asked by ZyncFinger in Windows 2000 Operating System

I've been having semi-frequent crashes recently on my Windows 2000 (SP4) machine. I've noticed that they invariably occur when I'm working with IE (6.0). I'll get a blue screen with one of the following messages:

*** STOP: 0x0000001E (0x00000005, 0xA0C0E345, 0x00000001, 0x000000DE)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

*** Address A000E345 base at A0000000, DateStamp 4047dcd6 - win32k.sys

 - or -

*** STOP: 0x0000000A (Ox12BD841B, Ox000000FF, Ox00000004, Ox80416B89)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

*** Address 80416B89 base at 80400000, DateStamp 4047db83 - ntoskrnl.exe

...after which the machine reboots itself and starts up without any problem. The first of the two error messages is the more frequent. I jotted down all those hex strings as fast as I could while the "dumping physical memory to disk" message was going, so I may be a character or two off.

I've also noticed that I'm getting more of the "Internet Explorer (or Firefox) has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" messages than I used to. No bluescreens with Firefox as of yet, though. Don't know if this might be related.

This is a fairly new install of Win2K on a new hard drive, and I know I didn't have any of these problems with the previous installation with essentially the same hardware and software installed. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks in advance.
