The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. HELP! New Mobo and now NTLDR is missing

Hello,
   I have a compaq presario 7000US Pentium III 1.2 GHZ with a 40 GB drive with dual boot Win98SE and 2000 SP4.  I used it last night and then shut it down for the last time to get it ready to sell.  My new computer a AMD 64 3500+ with ASUS a8v Deluxe Mobo with 512 pcr3200 ram came last night.  The computer came as a barebone with mobo, case, and memory installed but no drives.  I simply swapped in my 40GB drive and expected it would boot and go.  NOT!  The system worked through the post sequence and then when it went to boot it said NTLDR missing.

  I was able to boot from Win 2000 CD and try to repair the exisiting Win NT OS which didn't help and then tried a fresh install of Win 2000 overtop and although the files would copy on the drive, when it finished and I restarted I was right back to the same error message.  Any way to fix this without wiping the drive?
