Exactly. You should install the disk with the software that came with the Hard Drive as to update the BIOS/OS to be able to view the complete size of the HD.
As for changing it from IDE, I really don't think much will happen. You would have the missing situation like PaulADavis said, and you might lose the drive extention.
I really don't know what could exactly happen if you move the drive, specially if it's dynamic.
If the data can be recovered, don't worry about it and try it out. Now what if your looking for is that the computer will recognize the full HD capacity by changing it from IDE's I really, honestly don't think it will work.
You should instead, either Update BIOS, or install the HD again using the HD software (which you can also freely download from manafacture's website). After reinstalling it, covert to dynamic, extend it, and recover info to the HD ...
right?
cheers

interesting question... i've never tried moving a drive in a volume to another ide controller...don't know what the result will be...most likely it will show up as missing then you might try right clicking on the moved disk and selecting add disk or go to the action menu and select rescan disks, all in disk management in computer management.... but maybe some else will have a better idea... it's good that the data can be restored though.
you might also want to check in disk management whether or not the disk does show up as 250 gb but only has 128gb set for use....
also, do you have the installation software that came with the disk? installing that software might make the full capacity of the disk visible.
