How far does it go when you try to boot? Can you try connecting to C$ as administrator remotely? If that is possible you could try deleting the oldest C:\Winnt\$NTUninst.... directories, which are saved files from windows updates and normally are only necessary for a short time after the update if the update wouldn't work. If that doesn't work, it should at least boot into safe mode command prompt and then you could delete the directories from there localy. Knoppix probably doesn't work because it can only read ntfs partitions and doesn't have any further rights. If I remember correctly version 3.7 includes captive-ntfs which will allow you to get more than just read-only access to ntfs partitions. The newer versions don't include captive-ntfs anymore.
