I have an application that prints to a share on my windows 2000 server.
The application simply points to \\servername\printersharen
ame
The printer is an OTC 850XL Line printer (large dot matrix)
The print jobs that are being sent to the printer are usually very long reports that take a long time to print.
Here is the issue. Every time I happen to connect to the windows 2000 server that is hosting the printer share, there usually is an error that goes away on its own.
Title: Printers Folder
Red X: There was an error found when printing the document "\RMS\Spool\ZSPL2465" to IP_192.168.10.165. Do you want to retry or cancel the job.
The end users report no problems but these constant popups get in the way when I'm trying to administer that particular server.
I have turned off all notifications possible in the printers folder.
This happens with other line printers with different drivers.
I have contacted the software product vendor and of course, they point to Microsoft.
One thing that I do notice is that it never completely spools up on the print server until the print job is finished. For example, right now there is a print job that is erroring out that is 447KB/801KB. Maybe that is a clue.
