Asked by: egl1044

I have one computer with a fresh install of Windows 2000 server, I need a step by step guide to setting up RIS for network installations.

The computer has 3 hard drives, 1 for windows server partition and the others will be used for RIS,AD and OS Images

I am having trouble configuring the below correctly.

Setting up RIS and Active Directory

What must I do in order to configure RIS correctly so that I can install operating systems from the server.

Hi Jay Jay thank you for your response. I can get the entire process to work however the problem occurs that in most scenerios the windows 2000 image that is being installed from the client machine usually gets a STOP error and this is due to conflicting IP addresses. Today It worked once but then I keep getting the STOP error. Seems to occur when I use Static IP for the server however RIS wont work if i let the router obtain the ip and if i use static it doesn't let other computers connect to the internet.

you should have a static address on the server and let it doll out IP addressed using DHCP - currently your router is doing this yes?

by: egl1044Posted on 2006-04-05 at 15:52:16ID: 16387361

yes when the server was assigned an IP address I assigned it the same static IP address. But it seems that it conflicts with other computers on the network.

you need to find which machine has got that othe address - i would disable DHCP on the router temporarily and assign static IPs until you have DHCP setup on the server

I can look in the router settings and it doesn't show any IP addresses being the same. Have you ever encountered the error I detailed above its a blue screen that appears right after windows 2000 is about to format it says "STOP ip conflict another computer has the same ip address. I managed to get it to install the windows 2000 OS once but then keep getting network conflicts... Also is there any way I can create windows 98SE images as well as XP images with RIS it seems to only allow me to Image Windows 2000 professional.

Maybe driver issue, but if you still know how to install other images it would be great.
