Same applies to Win2k as well....
But which one works or are they both dead?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsAt one point, I had a working dual boot system with 2000 and XP. Somehow the XP install got messed up somewhere along the way. I finally got around to repairing that install and now I cannot boot into XP. I get the above message (it may be slightly wrong....not at the computer right now).
I read somewhere else, that perhaps XP got greedy with the boot sector (or something like that. Also, that if you install a newer OS, the ntldr gets replaced...etc...anyway, I'm no IT guy...
I tried the fixboot fixmbr solution to no avail. I am still able to get into XP just fine.
Anyone have an easy solution to this one? I really would not like to lose the 2000 install if I can help it.
Thanks in advance,

John,
The newly installed XP install works fine but this is the less used partition. Most of the programs I use are installed under 2000.
As far as only replacing the 'system portion', how would I go about that?
Also, another potential headache: I no longer have the original 2000 install CD, although I do have the setup floppies. I also ordered a replacement install CD for 2000.
Detailed instructions would be most helpfule.
Thank you for the assistance,
What I have done, is to go into the recovery console, and renamed the c:\windows\system32\config

It is hard to repair OS of multiboot system without affecting the other, especially if you are repairing the secondary OS.
Try to repair the windows 2000 installation by booting with the installation CD. At the first option screen, choose to install a new OS. After aggreeing the EULA, it will detect the windwos 2000 installation you had, choose the repair option.
I hope it will work!
