The profile will not dissappear completely. If it's the data, you can simply copy the data from the relevant folder in c:\Documents and Settings , however if you must absolutly have application data and reigstry settings,
open the system control panel (right click my computer, click properties).
click advanced, under user profiles click settings
highligh the profile to copy and browse to the new destination
Due to the fact the machine is already off the domain, it may state that some profiles are unknown, this is because the computer no longer has a trust relationship to dechipher the security id. Choose the one that is most current and has the largest size.

An easy fix would be to log in to the computer via the workgroup login. Log back out and back in as the Administrator. Then check the c:\Documents and Settings folder. You probably will have two profiles one that was the domain and one for the workgroup. Usually has USERNAME.XXX.. X can almost be anything depending on your setup. Open the profile to determine which one has your files. You can then rename the new profile folder something else then rename the old profile folder with the same name that the new folder had. This usually works. Windows does have a tool to move profiles and copy files but its usually only used during an OS install.
