corrupt administrator profile
What's the best way to deal with a corrupt administrator profile on a Windows 2000 Terminal Server? Basically when we log in as administrator the system freezes/crashes. We have a backup admin account so we can get by but I would like to know what's the best way of getting our original admin account working.
I would try login with the backup account and remove the administrator profile.
delete the corrupted profile, restart the computer, and then perform the following steps: 1. Create a new user account that has Administrator rights.
2. Log on as the new user.
3. Delete the corrupt built-in Administrator profile in the registry:a. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
b. Locate the administrator profile value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwar e\Microsof t\WindowsN T\CurrentV ersion\Pro fileList
c. Compare the Security Identifier (SID) with the profile path on the right to determine which SID to delete.
d. On the Edit menu, click Delete
e. Quit Registry Editor.
4. Restart the computer, and then log on as administrator by means of the new user account. Windows 2000 creates a new, uncorrupted Administrator account.

I need to find time to reboot the server for cs97jjm3 solution and as it's a round-the-clock operation and it's not critical it's not that easy to schedule down time for non-emergency situations. I'll try both methods within a couple of weeks and let you know what worked.

I had a server that kept trying to go to version 4 windows update instead of v6... So naturally it was not updating properly and no amount of hacking and deleting activex worked...
Purging the corrupted profile resolved the problem.
