system restore not erasing encryrption

Asked by wrobi in Windows 2000 Operating System, Hard Drives & Storage, Computer Hard Drives

yes hello, I purchased a Buffalo External Hard drive Sata unit.  We had a minor flaw with the unit in that it was encrypted, and somehow managed to encrypt all of the data that we had on it, on our system.  We attempted a system restore( 4 different checkpoints on different days; all dated before the day we installed the hard drive)  My problem is that when I do the system restore, the directories that all the files were in come back, however there is no data there.  Almost like the folders are still encrypted.  Is there a software that I can download that will scan through encrypted files and unencrypt them?  Is there something on system restore that I can do differently so that it works the way it is suppose to work? Buffalo of course was not much help.  I am trying several data recovery programs as well, scanning the buffalo as I type this. However if anyone else has experienced anything similar or has any ideas, please I would ask you to share them, thank youStart Free Trial
