Upgrading AD2000 to 2003

Hello All,

I have a Forrest Domain with two sub domains. I'd like to upgrade all to AD 2003.
Root Domain has three DC's and so does the two sub domains.
One sub domain has Exchange 2000 installed- but this is not on a DC.
Do I have to do anything on the Exchange Server to function normally when I upgrade all of the DC's?
What's the best practice?

I don't think there is any relation. Remember you have to updrade the schema to upgrade AD from 2000 to 2003.

Exchnage will be fine - the fact it not no a DC is GOOD NEWS.

Don't forget:

If the new Windows 2003 server is the  R2  version and the existing set-up is not then you need to run Adprep  from CD2 of the R2 disks on the existing Domain controller. Adprep is in the \CMPNENTS\R2\ folder on CD2.

If its the standard Windows 2003 then adprep in in the i386 folder

In neither event Place the 2003 CD in the Win 2003 DC and run
Adprep /forestprep
once in the forest (on the schema master)

Adprep /domainprep
once in each domain that you want to move to 2003

Do I upgrade the schema first, or does the ADPRED command do this for me?

I'd also like to know how long after I ran the ADPREP command I have to upgrade the server? Do I upgrade immediately or a couple of days?
